Privacy Rights & Disclosures
Last updated: September 17, 2026. This page sets out privacy rights that may apply to you depending on where you're located, in addition to our general Privacy & Cookies Statement.
Categories of Personal Information We Collect
In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the following categories of personal information from consultation requests and network applications: identifiers (name, email, phone); commercial information you volunteer (a description of your legal matter); and professional information (for attorneys applying to the network: jurisdiction, bar number, practice areas).
We Do Not Sell or Share Personal Information
Bernick & Beck does not sell personal information, and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising or targeted advertising, however those terms are defined under the law that applies to you.
Purpose of Collection
We collect this information solely to match you with an appropriate Network Attorney and to operate the referral platform. See our Privacy & Cookies Statement for detail.
Which Rights Apply to You
Privacy law varies by jurisdiction, and which of the rights below apply to you depends on where you're located and, in some cases, on the scale of our processing activities. Where a right described below doesn't apply to you as a matter of law, we still aim to honor a reasonable request wherever we practically can.
European Economic Area & United Kingdom (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are located in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Erasure of your personal data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to certain exceptions.
- Restriction of how we process your personal data in certain circumstances.
- Data portability, to receive your data in a structured, commonly used format.
- Object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent, without affecting processing already carried out.
- Not be subject to solely automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We do not currently use automated decision-making of this kind.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office) if you believe we haven't adequately addressed your concern.
California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we've collected, used, and disclosed about you.
- Delete personal information we've collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Correct inaccurate personal information we hold about you.
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, though as noted above, we don't do either.
- Non-discrimination: we will not deny services, charge different prices, or provide a different level of service because you exercised a CCPA right.
Other U.S. States
Several other U.S. states, including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and others that have since enacted comprehensive privacy laws, give residents rights that are broadly similar to California's: access, deletion, correction, and the ability to opt out of targeted advertising or the sale of personal data, along with a right to appeal a denied request in most of these states. We don't sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising, and we extend the same access, deletion, and correction process described below to residents of these states.
Canada
If you are located in Canada, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), or applicable provincial equivalent, gives you the right to access and request correction of your personal information, and to know how it's being used. We extend the same process described below to Canadian residents.
Other Jurisdictions
If you're located somewhere not specifically addressed above, local law may give you similar rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. We aim to honor a reasonable request regardless of where it comes from. Contact us using the details below and we'll address it under whichever framework applies.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Email [email protected] and tell us which right you'd like to exercise. We will need to verify your identity before processing a request. Using the same email address on file is usually sufficient given the limited data we hold.
Authorized Agents
You may designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we may still require you to verify your own identity directly with us.
International Data Transfers
Where personal information is transferred across borders as part of operating the platform, we aim to apply safeguards appropriate to that transfer. See the "International Transfers" section of our Privacy & Cookies Statement for the current detail.
